Wine & Spirit Education Trust – the Gold Standard in global wine education.
It is with good reason that the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has been referred to as the ‘Gold Standard’ in wine education. The London based organisation has been offering comprehensive wine training to industry for over 35 years and is the only wine education body approved by the UK government’s education regulator. From this base WSET has expanded to offer their programs in 47 countries across the Globe from the traditional wine heartland of France to such new wine consuming nations as Japan & China. In fact last year, over 24000 students took a WSET course in any one of the 13 languages that the qualifications are now available in – testament in itself to the high standard and credibility of the program.
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust program is designed to provide product knowledge and underpin required skills to a broad cross section of the wine industry and the students who take the WSET courses reflect that ethos. In fact, it is commonplace to find students from retail, hospitality, sales & marketing and even the wine production sector sitting together in the same class. The structure and academic depth of the courses will hold equal appeal to the wine enthusiast who wishes to learn more about wine from a professional standpoint The entire program consists of 6 qualifications split into 5 levels with a certificate issued on successful completion of each.. In addition, any student who passes the WSET Advanced Certificate may apply to use the WSET logo and the term WSET Certified to indicate the level of knowledge obtained to industry colleagues and peers.
Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts has called upon the diverse wine training & knowledge of its instructors to create something unique. With the WSET syllabus at the core of all programs, we have incorporated food and wine pairing in each class to better utilize our instructional hours to suit the needs of our marketplace and students of wine across Canada. This means exposure to a greater variety of wines, a heavy focus on food & wine matching and wine service, as well as more opportunities to work with instructors in developing your palate. We truly believe this makes our courses the most comprehensive and well rounded on offer in the city today. Additionally, all of our programs are offered multiple times during the year, which means you can start your wine and spirits education when you want.
